MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

JUDGE - ANDY HAYES
Our final competition of the year. Hopefully next year we will be back to some kind of normality and exhibiting in the Mercat Centre as usual. Get your entries in - you have until 19th April. You are allowed 5 entries across the categories but no more than 4 in any one category. Good luck all.
It is my honour to serve as President of Kirkcaldy Photographic Society again. Thank you.
The world has changed in ways we could not have anticipated since my last tenure in 2018. The 2020-2021 season has been a tough one for everyone. Unable to get out for photography, and then when allowed out, not wanting to go out, or feeling uncomfortable doing so. And, deeply saddening for everyone, we lost our great friend and President, Roy Balfour. We miss you Roy.
For many of us, Zoom meetings have been something of a saviour. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but at least Zoom allowed us to indulge our love of photography through the eyes of others. A big “thank you” to Cathy Davies for organising and re-organising speakers and new events to keep us entertained, and to Ron Walker for stepping in to fill Roy’s shoes until the end of the season. And of course to all the committee and members alike for your efforts and continued support. Speaking of tea, I really hope we can get back to real meetings again and enjoy a cuppa from Stewart.
For the meantime, we’ll keep planning for online meetings. Maybe if restrictions allow over the summer, small groups of members might be able to meet outdoors, although many of us may still feel uncomfortable doing so until the pandemic subsides.
As a committee we will continue to monitor the situation. I hope to see everyone again soon. Send me a message if you’d like to chat about photography, or anything. And whatever you do, stay safe! Martin Watt President, Kirkcaldy Photographic Society 2nd May 2021

26th January 2021 - A tribute to our President, Roy Balfour, who died suddenly on the 25th January 2021
Roy was larger than life, one of a kind. Not only a fellow photographer, but also a very good friend. He was passionate about his photography and about his beloved camera club. His main interest in photography was birds in the wild and all things nature - in fact he set himself up as the leader of a breakout group at KPS (better known as the Tufty Club) where he would organise group outings for the nature lovers among us. Such was his love of this type of photography, Roy set off on adventures in Hungary (with Zoltan) and South Africa to the national parks. He had so many travels still to undertake and so many photographs yet to shoot.
Roy was well known for his humour, passion, and willingness to help anyone in need. His giving nature and kindness knew no bounds and he was always willing to give of his time and expertise (and lifts to meets). With his incredible zest for life, and an exuberance seen in few, his passing will leave a huge gap in the lives of many. Our club rooms will certainly be so quiet without him. His death has shocked our club and it has left many of us saddened, and angry, at the unfairness of it. Roy will be sorely missed. Sadly Roy did not get to see his image of a Hoopoe come in first place at our recent 'Battle of the Tartans' competition with Penwith Photographic Group - this would really have made his day. I hope you enjoy browsing his images.
