MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

SEPTEMBER 2023

COMING UP

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Friends,

Welcome to Kirkcaldy Photographic society. For those of you who are new members this year, I am Ron Walker, the current President of the club and I am so looking forward to getting back to our Monday night meetings at Hayfield Community Centre .

This is a very special year in our Club  history - our 125th year!. A great achievement to have been going steadily for that length of time....(and surviving lockdown too!)

Meetings will restart on Mon. 11th September at 7 30pm. The syllabus this year is very exciting and varied and should cater to everyone's field of interest, as well as help to expand our knowledge and skills.

Over the year we will get together at other times when we go on various outings. - another opportunity to get together to share our skills and knowledge.

There will be the opportunity to enter competitions, both digital and print, so I hope you have all managed to add to your portfolio over the summer.

Monday nights are a highlight in my week. I so enjoy the sharing of locations etc as well as the friendly chats over a cuppa. I look forward to meeting up with friends, old and new, very soon. See you all on Sept 11th!

Ron

HIGH SCORERS FROM 2 WAY WITH LINLITHGOW

from MARTIN WATT - EXTERNAL COMPETITION SECRETARY

A quick report on the Two-Way competition at Linlithgow this evening.

After a close run, with the leading swapping several times, Kirkcaldy eventually got the win by 4 points (360 to 356). The scores were very evenly matched, and both sides scored three 20s. Our 20s went to Cathy Davies for "Dilemma", Martin Watt for "Don't Leave Me This Way" and John Martin for "The Undercroft".

Thank you to everyone who entered images, and for everyone who was able to travel to Linlithgow for the competition. Top marks went to Linlithgow for the catering!

Results from the recent GB Cup
In the Open section, 3 members scored 14 (out of 15) which is excellent. Well done Moira Gardner for "Balloons at Sunrise", Phil Cooke for "Rattray Head Lighthouse Feeling Blue" and Wanda Mackie for "On Target".

We also had high scores with our other images, so well done to everyone.

In the Nature section, Moira Gardner again scored 14, this time for "Sea Gooseberry" AND she was awarded Highly Commended. Very well done Moira.

The club score in Nature was 143 putting us in 36th place. Which is pretty good considering we didn't have enough images for a full entry. And ... in the Open section, we scored 157 points which gave us 5th place! Also the second highest Scottish club just behind Dumfries by 1 point. This is a superb result for our wee club. Again, well done everyone!
